Shaun

ShaunShaun is a young man with SCI, injured by a driver who was texting. The request, which came to us from the Miami Project, was for a basketball wheelchair which most insurance will not cover since it is not his primary chair.

Action:
The Board of Directors of the Mary and Charles A. Parkhill Foundation for Spinal Cord Rehabilitation unanimously approved a grant of approximately $4,000 to purchase the chair.

Doss Family Message to our Foundation:
To Charlie Parkhill & the Board of the Mary and Charles A. Parkhill Foundation,

This wheelchair is such a blessing to our son; he is able to play on a basketball team with his peers, be more active with the community, and all around this is making him a happier child. We can't thank you enough for this amazing donation! Shaun is ecstatic he was able to pick out what color he wanted the chair to be, and even more excited he was able to get it personally made just for him by someone he gets to play basketball with. We can't thank you enough for making this possible. Once we receive the chair we will forward a photo.

Sincerely,
Robert and Michelle Doss

Hello Charlie,

I just want to let you know that you and your foundation have made my son extremely happy. Every time he straps himself into his new basketball chair he is all smiles.

Thank you again, this means the world to us.
Robert Doss

2016 Update Shaun Doss:
Hi Mr. Parkhill,

I hope you are well.. Hopefully you remember me. You and your amazing team blessed me with a sports chair a couple years ago. I really do not know how to ask, but I guess I am going to get right to it. I started a GoFundMe account to help my parents. They are awesome and are building an accessible home for me to gain my independence for my future. But as you know, it comes at a price making wider doorways and zero step entrances. If you know of any groups or people that would like to help, please pass my info along.

On another note, I do Wheelchair Skating (WCMX) now and placed 10th in the world last month and plan to be the youngest spinal cord injury to land a back flip.

Action:
The Board of Directors of the Mary and Charles A. Parkhill Foundation for Spinal Cord Rehabilitation unanimously approved a grant of approximately $3,750 to assist in the construction.
